Annotation

In Gladiator, Roman general Maximus is chosen by Emperor Marcus Aurelius as his heir, enraging Aurelius' son, Commodus. A power struggle ensues, leading to Maximus' family's execution. Captured, Maximus becomes a gladiator, fueled by revenge. His sole desire is to confront Commodus and avenge his family, driving him to rise through the ranks of the brutal games.
